I'm Basudev Das, an AI/ML Engineer based in Kolkata, India. I graduated from Brainware University with a B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering (AI & ML) and an 8.49 CGPA, and I'm currently interning at LabMentix, where I spend most of my time elbow-deep in messy datasets — cleaning, transforming, and building models that actually hold up when tested. So far that's meant working through 15,000+ records and training and evaluating more than a dozen ML models. What I enjoy most is turning ideas into things that actually work end to end, not just in a notebook. My project CareerForge AI started as a way to fix a problem I'd run into myself — resumes that look fine to a person but get filtered out by ATS software — and grew into a full platform for resume generation and job-fit analysis. I've also built a multi-agent customer support assistant combining LLMs with retrieval-based search, and an oral cancer detection system using deep learning, because I'm genuinely curious about where AI can be useful beyond the obvious use cases. I mostly work in Python, with FastAPI and MongoDB on the backend and React or Next.js up front — but I care less about collecting tools than understanding how they fit together to solve a real problem. I'm still early in my career and always looking to learn more, especially around RAG systems and AI orchestration.

I work on end-to-end machine learning workflows here, covering everything from data preprocessing and feature engineering to model training and evaluation. So far I've processed over 15,000 data records and trained and evaluated 10+ machine learning models across different projects. A big part of the role is cleaning and transforming raw datasets to actually make them usable — and then comparing model results to figure out what approach genuinely fits the problem, rather than just going with whatever performs best on paper.

This was my first real exposure to AI and machine learning outside the classroom. Through project-based learning, I got hands-on with the fundamentals — applying Python to data preprocessing, model development, and evaluation, and slowly building an understanding of what it actually takes to bring an AI model from an idea to something usable. It's where I first got curious about applying ML concepts to real datasets instead of just theory.
